I remember when I found out I was pregnant with my first child. Oh, the excitement! I couldn’t wait to spread the word! That meant phone calls, baby showers, formal announcements, and showing off the bump. It was a lot of work but also fun.
This scenario comes to mind whenever I have a book on the way. (Psst…my next one arrives next spring.) Building prelaunch buzz is similar to preparing for the birth of a baby. You have plenty of hard labor, anticipation, and excitement. If you’re lucky, your efforts will lead to a healthy, bouncing batch of preorders.
Although the publisher will assist you in the lead-up to your book launch, you still have to do your part. After all, you’re the one birthing this book baby. Your name will be on the cover, just like the birth certificate. You’ll want to ensure your book gets everything it needs before the arrival.
