Hey there! Thanks for reading the Metaphysical Author’s Confidential. This newsletter is for fellow mystics who want to write, publish, or market their magical books. I hope you find it useful. Please consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.
This is a short missive this week.
It’s the Fourth here in the States. It’s a federal holiday, which means there will be no mail. For others, this means a day off to play and eat. If you’re a writer, you might see this as your chance to write.
However, you might feel it’s hard to write or celebrate at this time. There are so many horrible things happening in the world, plus democracy is hanging by a thread in the US. The recent decision by SCOTUS to make the president above the law is a warning bell that cannot be ignored. This means many of us are now doomscrolling, desperately looking for information and a grain of hope. Others are opting out, claiming they won’t bother to vote, something I understand but makes me worried for the future of this country.
All of this to say: it’s hard as hell to write when shit is going down on multiple fronts.
You might be looking around and thinking the same thing. You may assume your writing doesn’t matter when there is famine, war, climate issues, and wannabe dictators at the gates. I get that. But here’s the deal: the world has always been a tough place to live. Humans are going to human after all - and some of them are pretty terrible. But remember, humanity has always found a way to rise above. You must not let despair get in the way of your good work.
You must continue to write because the world needs your voice. It needs news, of course, but also fiction to spur our imaginations, poetry to inspire, intelligent op-eds to make us think, and comedy to keep us laughing. Writers need to keep writing more than ever.
So today, and every day going forward, please keep writing. Take today off if you must, but don’t let this become a habit. Doomscroll less, write more.
xo

PS Please don’t feel you have to write about politics. Just remember to VOTE as if your life depended on it. It does.
